In a nutshell, my role incorporates the day-to-day management and running of the company. It is my responsibility to drive the company forward with new innovative ideas whilst maintaining that personalised service that we have built our reputation upon. I carry out all tasks from visiting new and existing clients, liaising with local authorities and professional bodies, carrying out spot checks and supervisions and even making the tea!!
I started as a Saturday girl in a residential home when I was 15. This generally involved making tea and coffee and providing companionship to the residents. I thoroughly enjoyed spending time talking to the residents and learning about their lives. I progressed to working full time and then moved onto the Nursing floors working with residents living with more complex needs. I then moved out in to the field and began working in homecare, both in the office and in the community. I also have personal experience caring for my mum when she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. She was poorly for over two years and sadly passed away at the age of 54.
Rewards and challenges
I love the smiles! I get so much satisfaction just being able to bring a smile to someone’s face or even a tear to their eye. You know you have made a difference when someone just gives you that ‘look’. It is sometimes the smallest, most basic of things that make a difference. That is why I do what I do.
The most challenging thing is dividing my time. I am often needed in several places at any one time. As a perfectionist, I like to give 110% to everyone and everything. I could do with a clone!
